Intensive Training Program

Apprentice and Trainee Program

All ITP and Apprentice Classes are at the

Columbus location unless noted

Admittance into CDT’s ITP and Apprentice/Trainee classes is by permission of the Artistic Director.  CDT’s Professional division is designed for serious students preparing for careers in dance and the arts. Select members of this program will be chosen as Apprentices to the Company.  Students in this program follow a schedule and casting as outlined by the Artistic Director. 

Students study extensively in ballet including pointe, variations, partnering, and men's work.  Extensive training in modern dance is also part of the program.  The program is one of mentorship toward careers as an arts and dance professional, but it is also an enriching program for young dancers regardless of their final career aspirations. Students receieve annual evaluations and career counceling as they reach graduation from the program. 

Former ITP students have been accepted into professional Companies including:  The Nashville Ballet, The Louisville Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theatre II, Colorado Ballet, Cleveland Dancing Wheels, and Columbus Dance Theatre.  ITP students are regularly accepted into highly competitive summer programs including:  The School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, The Juilliard School, LINES Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Cincinatti Ballet, Nashville Ballet, and Louisville Ballet.

The program ideally prepares young dancers for a life in dance with many of our students going on to careers as performers and educators.
