THE SCHOOL OF

COLUMBUS DANCE THEATRE

Dance for the Young Child Ages 3 - 16

CDT accepts children at age 3 into our creative dance program. This program is based in self expression and task oriented activities that teach rhythmic and movement skills through creativity and organized activity. As children move through the curriculum they have a variety of options for their development as younger dancers including ballet, national dance, modern, tap and jazz dance. The program for children under age eleven opens students to their own physical potential and prepares them for further development in either our Intensive Training Program, Open Program, or to continue to enjoy dance classes by continuing through our Upper School.

Intensive Training Program - Ages 11 - Professional

The Intensive Training Program is an intensive, ballet-based, curriculum of study that prepares serious students for careers in performance and dance education. Students in ITP train multiple days per week and participate in all CDT performances as determined by the Artistic Director

Students are evaluated on their attendance and personal development as they progress through the program and are given annual recommendations and evaluations of their work each year.

The Open Program

CDT offers adults and teens classes in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Yoga in an open class system. The emphasis of these classes is on dance as a recreational activity. Classes are taught by our professional faculty and are detailed, challenging, and fun.

Students in this program may study in a "drop in" manner by paying for classes using our "class card" system. Open Program students who wish to participate in our annual student performance take these classes as tuition-based students and must maintain an 80% attendance rate for the three-month period prior to the end of the year performance.

Workshops and Master Classes

Every year CDT sponsors multiple master classes and workshops that are open to the community. The summer session is highlighted with these exciting opportunities for our students to receive training from outstanding teachers in intensive study situations.
